Denmark, China ink agreements during Hu Jintao state visit

“This is a very important day for us. The Chinese president coming here with a large delegation of senior Chinese businessmen makes this a very important day,” Thomas Bostrup, of the Confederation of Danish Industries, told AFP.

“Today we will be signing several major agreements. I think this will give a lot more orders because it will be noticed in China that their president is here and will give some exposure to the competencies and technologies that we have in Denmark,” he said.

Hu arrived in the Scandinavian country late Thursday with a 200-strong trade and business delegation, and signing ceremonies throughout Friday were to highlight strengthened business ties between the two countries.

A strategic partnership was to be inked between Denmark's largest private equity fund Axcel and its Chinese counterpart Fosun International Ltd, China's leading investment company.

“Fosun's unique expertise in identifying growth opportunities in China and previous investments in Europe will bring a new model of global collaboration to the world,” Fosun chief executive Liang Xinjun said in a statement.

“Strong Danish industries like life science and clean tech have already attracted Fosun's attention, and my hope is that this new partnership will materialize in actual investments in Denmark,” Danish Trade and Investment Minister Pia Olsen Dyhr told reporters.

The world's largest container shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk's independent subsidiary APM Terminals was to sign an agreement to build a harbor terminal in China, and the Carlsberg brewery group is to build a new vast brewery in Yunnan province.

The Danfoss engineering company and the engineering design consultants COWI are to sign an agreement to provide a district heating system for the Chinese city of Anshan in the northeastern Liaoning province.

Denmark's Danish Crown meat producers were also to enter into a major export agreement with the Shineway Industry Group, China's biggest meat processor.

At the same time Chinese internet technology company Jiangsu Comc was to sign an agreement to open its European headquarters in Denmark, while Aigo Entrepreneur Alliance of China was to open an office for Chinese companies wanting to establish in Denmark.

The aigo group is an alliance of more than 100 Chinese companies.

China is currently Denmark's eighth largest export market, and as of March this year there were 331 Danish companies doing business in China.
