Airline uses drama to attract new fliers

TAIPEI -- China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan's largest carrier, began yesterday offering on-demand screening of a popular soap opera in a bid to attract younger customers.

The first local carrier to air an in-flight Taiwanese soap opera, CAL said it will show “In Time with You,” which won seven Golden Bell Awards last year.

Starring pop stars Ariel Lin and Chen Bo-lin, the 13-episode series will target local fans and also promote Taiwanese drama, the airline said.

Since the lead actor is featured in the show as a member of CAL ground staff, the carrier said it also hopes the soap opera will increase brand awareness among international passengers.
