China Everbright to invest in costly biomass project

HONG KONG -- China Everbright International Ltd. said it has agreed to invest in a 331 million yuan (US$48 million) biomass power generation project in Dangshan county, Anhui province.

An “investment cooperative framework agreement” has been signed with the Dangshan Municipal Government regarding the project, which will use household waste, rotten fruit and straw to generate electricity, the company said today in a statement. The plant is expected to commence operations in 2012, it said.
