Two dead, 19 ill in China after suspected tainted food

SHENZHEN -- Two people died and 19 were recovering Saturday after a suspected food poisoning incident in southern China, state media reported. The group fell ill after having lunch at a restaurant near their workplace, BYD Company Limited, in Shenzhen, Xinhua news agency reported. Nineteen people who had been hospitalised in critical condition were improving, and another 42 under medical observation were in stable condition, said Wang Jianjun, BYD Company spokesman.

Authorities were investigating what sickened the people, who suffered from bellyaches and vomiting. The local health department took water and food samples from the restaurant for testing.
