Asian insurer AIA announces jump in annual net profit of nearly 90 percent

HONG KONG -- Asian insurance giant AIA said Wednesday its net profit for the year rocketed almost 90 percent, building on growth from previous years despite a challenging economic environment.

Hong Kong-listed AIA said net profit for the year ended November 30 jumped to US$3.02 billion from US$1.60 billion the previous year.

New business, a key performance measure for profitability, grew by 27 percent to US$1.19 billion, up from US$932 million.
