Mayer, a German citizen, has been working for Daimler AG since 1989. He has accumulated nearly 20 years of substantial experience in passenger car as well as commercial vehicle sales, marketing and dealer network management in different cultural environments, through taking up various assignments in different continents, ranging from Mercedes-Benz headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, to the regional office of Latin America.
In 2006, he transferred to South Africa, and completed his assignment in Mercedes-Benz South Africa as Vice President for Sales and Marketing of Passenger Cars in 2012.
During his tenure in Mercedes-Benz South Africa, Eckart Mayer laid a solid foundation for the brand's leading position in the country's luxury car market. He played a significant role in launching strategic initiatives that established Mercedes-Benz as the No. 1 luxury car brand in South Africa for three consecutive years, combined with a significant improvement of CSI scores.
