Chinese Toyota sales fall in October on islands row

TOKYO -- Car sales in China by Toyota Motor Corp. dived 44 percent in October from the same month last year amid strong anti-Japan sentiment in the world's second-largest economy, news reports said Thursday.

Toyota, which decided to slash Chinese production by half in October, sold 45,600 vehicles in China last month, the Kyodo News agency said, citing the carmaker's Chinese unit.

Sales by Japan's largest carmaker in China in September plunged 48.9 percent year-on-year to 44,100 units.
