Hon Hai Precision yesterday declined to comment on reports that it will sell its 60-inch LCD TVs under the brand of “Sakai 10,” after Sharp's Osaka, Japan plant in which Terry Gou, Hon Hai chairman, has a stake.
Media reported yesterday the TVs will be available at the retail arm of Hon Hai starting in November at the soonest and will be offered for less than NT$50,000.
With regard to those reports, Hon Hai declined to comment yesterday.
According to sources familiar with the TV industry, Hon Hai is unlikely to launch large-size TVs under its own brand. Rather, its priority is to help retailers sell the TVs, they said.
“Hon Hai's focus now is marketing, through which consumers will know more about the 60-inch TVs that are made with flat panels produced at the Sakai plant and assembled by Hon Hai,” the sources said.
The LCD TVs will first hit the market in the United States, China and Taiwan and then in emerging markets such as Indonesia and Brazil, according to media reports.
The reports said that Hon Hai will work with China's LETV to sell the television sets, which will include LETV's own smart TV technology as well as content.
