Panel makers ready for new Apple orders: firmThe China Post news staff Flat panel manufacturers have readied themselves for more orders from Apple, which is set to roll out a variety of new products including the iPhone 5, iPad Mini and the next-generation new iPad, said market research firm DisplaySearch yesterday.
September 12, 2012, 11:45 am TWN The upbeat sentiment in the flat panel industry is expected to last throughout the second half, DisplaySearch said. According to DisplaySearch, Apple is set to roll out the iPhone 5, iPad Mini and the next-generation new iPad, all of which will be thin, light and high in resolution. Panel suppliers in the Apple ecosystem include Corning, Japan Display, LG Display, Sharp, AU Optronics, Chimei Innolux, Samsung and Hon Hai, among others, DisplaySearch said. The firm expects the iPad 2 to ship 21 million units in 2012, the new iPad 43 million and the iPad Mini 8 million. The iPhone 4S will ship 150 million in 2012 and the iPhone 5 35 million. While the iPhone 5 has not been launched, the market expects its panel size to increase to four inches, as opposed to the 3.5 inches for the iPhone 4S. Resolution will remain at 326 pixels per inch, it said. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5 is expected to feature the so-called in-cell touch panel, which is more difficult to make, DisplaySearch said. Panels by LG and Japan Display have been verified for mass production, while those made by Sharp are still being made on a trial basis, it said.
