Deutsche Post DHL profits up 64% on back of strengthening Asia business

FRANKFURT -- Freight, mail and express delivery company Deutsche Post DHL said Tuesday its net profit rose 64 percent to 533 million euros (US$695 million) in the first quarter because of stronger business in Asia and the last gains from the sale of Postbank to Deutsche Bank.

The profit rise came on the back of a 4.3-percent increase in sales to 13.4 billion euros. Earnings were helped by sharply higher express delivery revenues in the Asia Pacific region.
