Russian car sales down by 37 pct in Jan.

MOSCOW -- Car sales in Russia dropped by 37 percent in January as the recession continues to hurt the industry, a leading business group said Monday. The year-on-year decline is significant considering the fact that January 2009 saw very weak sales, the Association of European Businesses said in a statement, but the magnitude of the decline can be attributed a highly volatile ruble in January 2009.
