Forced exit of TNK-BP CEO bad for Russia: UK

LONDON -- The departure from Russia of Robert Dudley, the chief executive officer of BP Plc’s Russian oil venture, is “bad news” for the Russian economy, the UK Foreign Office said.

It is “very disappointing” that Russian shareholders in the TNK-BP venture have manipulated elements of the Russian bureaucracy, the Foreign Office said in an e-mailed statement Friday.

Dudley, a U.S. citizen, left Russia because of “sustained harassment” in the face of a shareholder dispute, TNK-BP said Thursday. Nearly all TNK-BP’s foreign employees also may have to leave because they haven’t had their visas renewed.
