Hiwin Technologies sells over 100 robots per month

TAIPEI -- Hiwin Technologies Corp. (上銀科技), a leading Taiwanese machine tool maker, sold more than 100 robots in July and expects to sell over 100 units per month, company Chairman Chuo Yung-tsai (卓永財) said.

Speaking at the Taiwan Automation Intelligence and Robot Show 2014 being held at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall from July 31 through Aug. 3, Chuo said that the company is unable to keep up with demand and needs to expand. He estimated that robots could account for 10 percent of the company's total sales this year.

Hiwin's robots are used to strengthen production automation for manufacturers, and by the end of this year, the firm will also enter the medical industry field, Chuo went on.

Hiwin could produce a robot to aid in rehabilitation for people with hand injuries within two years and is already developing a leg-rehabilitation robot in conjunction with a medical institution, he said.

A robot that can help disabled users to take a shower or bath is expected to be shipped by the end of this year, and could be priced at half the price of rival products, Chuo said.
