8 local firms aim to cultivate robotics talents

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Eight local companies donated scholarship money and products valued at NT$3 million in total to this year's Smart Robot Innovation Contest, in an effort to foster young talent in the robotics industry.

The Industrial Development Bureau sponsors the event, which was held for the sixth consecutive year. The competition, which has attracted 3,582 attendants from 722 teams over the years, has produced 256 innovative technologies and ideas and has resulted in nine academic and corporate joint partnerships.

The eight sponsoring companies include Delta Electronics (台達電子), Li Ming Machinery Industrial, Hiwin Motion Control and System Technology, Syntec Technology, Toptek Automation, and Top Most Technology.

Two past contestants showed up at this year's event to share their experience. A man surnamed Zheng, a 26-year-old National Cheng Kung University graduate, participated in a past contest and won several hundred thousand New Taiwan dollars with his teammates. He was recruited by Hon Hai Group (鴻海集團) upon finishing his military service.

A 26-year-old National Cheng Kung University graduate, surnamed Deng, participated in two past contests and won third place in the service robot category. Deng currently works as an engineer at Delta Electronics.
