CTBC collects NT$153 million in donations to help Taiwan's children

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- CTBC Bank (中信銀行) said that it collected more than NT$153 million in charity donations for the 29th annual Light Up a Life (點燃生命之火) project dedicated to helping disadvantaged children.

CTBC Bank estimates that more than 28,783 children will be helped by the donations, noting that the NT$153 million represented a new record

An event was recently held at CTBC Holding's headquarters to show gratitude to the people and organizations that made the donations. The event was attended by CTBC Charity Foundation (中信慈善基金會) Chairman Jeffrey Koo Jr. (辜仲諒), various high-level executives of CTBC Holding (中信金控) subsidiaries, representatives of the project's co-organizers, as well as several charity organizations, which will be receiving the donations.

According to CTBC Charity Foundation, 37 percent of the donors made their first contributions to the project, 56 percent of which were made up of people younger than 29 years of age, indicating that despite less than ideal economic circumstances, the younger generation is still willing to help out the disadvantaged.

Of the NT$153 million, NT$20 million was donated by an individual who won the lottery, and 16 percent of all donations were made anonymously, a twofold increase from last year, CTBC Charity Foundation said.

The money will go to the Child Welfare League Foundation (兒福聯盟), the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (家扶基金會), the Paper Windmill Foundation (紙風車文教基金會), the Eden Social Welfare Foundation (伊甸社會福利基金會), the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation (羅慧夫顱顏基金會), the Syin-Lu Social Welfare Foundation (心路社會福利基金會), the Boyo Social Welfare Foundation (博幼社會福利基金會) and the Changhua County Ai Ling Social Welfare Association (彰化縣愛鄰社會福利協會).

Organized by CTBC Bank, Light Up a Life was initiated by CTBC Charity Foundation.
