4-1 automotive Mega Show kicks off in Taipei

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A 4-in-1 Mega Show kicked off yesterday, with 1,346 exhibitors setting up 3,665 booths to present auto parts, accessories and equipment at the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC), making it one of the largest and most diverse automobile shows in Asia.

Held at the TWTC Exhibition Hall 1 and Nangang Exhibition Hall from April 9-12, the Mega Show is comprised of the 30th Taipei International Auto Parts & Accessories Show (Taipei AMPA), the 9th Taipei International Automobile Electronics Show (AutoTronics Taipei), the 9th Taiwan International Motorcycle Show (Motorcycle Taiwan) and the 4th Taiwan International Electric Vehicle Show (EV Taiwan).

The four shows are expected to attract about 50,000 local visitors and 7,000 foreign buyers, according to the show's organizer, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). Based on 2013 show statistics, Japan and mainland China are the largest foreign buyers, making up 24 percent and 12.7 percent of the buyers. The U.S., Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines made up 7.8 percent, 6.5 percent, 4.2 percent, 3.9 percent, 3.8 percent, 3.6 percent, 3.6 percent, 2.4 percent of the buyers, respectively.

Auto Procurement Opportunities

The expo showcases four major types of auto products: automobile parts, automobile accessories, automobile electronics end products and automobile electronics parts.

TAITRA is also setting up 1-on-1 procurement meetings between international buyers and local suppliers. The event's heavyweight buyers include Advance Auto Parts, SAF Holland, Delphi Sunstar Singapore and RAFI GmbH & Co. KG.

TAITRA estimates that US$600 million worth of business opportunities will be created through the event.

Dr. San Gee, vice chairman of TAITRA, said at the event's opening ceremony that Taiwan's auto industry has maintained stable export sales over the years, with the export value reaching US$6.6 billion in 2013. Local manufacturers' R&D and innovation capacity have won a good reputation in the global market, he said, adding that collision parts manufactured locally boast a global market share of over 80 percent.

Products Featured in the Four Shows

Taipei AMPA will feature a variety of products, such as auto parts, steering systems, transmission systems, brake systems, engine parts, lamps, suspension systems and air conditioning.

AutoTronics Taipei will feature products such as electric vehicle batteries and components, GPS devices, vehicle monitoring systems, automobile semiconductors, LED products and vehicle safety systems.

Motorcycle Taiwan showcases scooters, motorcycle frames, parts and accessories and customized bikes, among others.

EV Taiwan presents electric vehicles (e-cars, e-motorcycles, e-scooters), energy storage technology, energy and recharging infrastructure, test systems and services, drive and motor systems, etc.
