TAIPEI -- Two forums featuring the latest trends and developments in the automation intelligence sector are set to take place in Taipei and Taichung next month, the organizers said Wednesday.
Digitimes Research said the two forums will focus on how to make current automated manufacturing projects smarter by using the latest Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
IoT is defined as a world that links physical objects to virtual data and environments, which interact with each other in real time and thus can lead to "smart" manufacturing, the company said.
Digitimes Research said it is hoping to provide a platform for representatives from the public and private sectors and academia to discuss their research in areas related to the sector and progress made.
The day-long forums will take place in Taipei on March 11 and in Taichung on March 13, the organizer said.
The output of the automation and related sectors in Taiwan totaled NT$972 billion (US$32.41 billion) in 2012, up 2.26 percent from a year earlier, and was expected to exceed NT$1 trillion in 2013.
Taiwan's government has promoted the trend toward automation as it attempts to refocus the country's efficiency-driven economy more toward innovation.
