NTU and MediaTek to jointly develop 5G tech

TAIPEI--National Taiwan University (NTU) and MediaTek Inc. set up an innovative research center Thursday to work together on the development of fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication technology.

MediaTek said 4G mobile communication networks, which are not yet operational in Taiwan, will be unable to meet demand after 2020,therefore, it is time to start research and development of 5G systems.

The academic and business sectors must take on the challenge of developing new technologies, the company said.

Meanwhile, NTU Vice President Chen Liang gee said that in the future, demand will increase for information delivered via phones and other mobile devices.
