WeChat's growth in 2013 reaches new record high

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A mobile communications platform WeChat yesterday announced that the platform's growth from the second to the fourth quarter in 2013 reached a new record high based on the GlobalWebIndex (GWI) Social report.
According to WeChat, the fourth quarter of the social media industry report stated that the 2013 global user growth rate from the second to the fourth quarter in 2013 reached 379 percent, a new record high.
WeChat said that GWI Social investigated the usage and adoption rates by users ages 16 to 64 for over 30 social media outlets that target the global market, but the investigation excluded statistics from mainland China.
Tencent Holdings Limited said that WeChat ranks the second in the App Store in India, and it also ranks first in the communication category in the App Store in India.
According to Tencent Holdings Limited, WeChat is also ranked in the top three in the App Store in Italy.
As for the usage rate in Southeast Asia, Tencent Holdings Limited said, WeChat was one of the top three most downloaded applications in the Philippines in 2012, and based on Google Trend 2013, WeChat is the only instant message application listed in the top 10 most-searched rankings in Malaysia.
Tencent Holdings Limited said that WeChat will launch two sets of free stickers for Valentine's Day.
According to Tencent Holdings Limited, the GWI is a market research firm founded by Tom Smith in 2009. The Internet Advertising Bureau describes GlobalWebIndex as the world's most detailed syndicated research outlet specializing in online consumer behaviors, covering 32 key global markets and 89 percent of the world's internet population.
