TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Hon Hai's cloud computing data center yesterday received its users' license from a governing body, and is expected to commence operations this May.
The facility is situated at the Kaohsiung Software Technology Park (KSTP, 高雄軟體科技園區) and comprises of a 3,000-ping cloud computing data center and a sprawling 19,000-ping building to house software development endeavors. Construction of the data center began in August last year, and was completed in December, however, the software development building will not begin operating until 2015.
According to the KSTP, the 6-floored building that houses the cloud computing data center has passed fire safety regulations and has received its users' license from the Export Processing Zone Administration (加工出口區管理處), Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The facility is poised to serve as the main development site of Hon Hai's efforts in carving out its hold in telecoms sector amid Taiwan's transition to the fourth-generation (4G) mobile broadband network.
Ten companies have expressed willingness to develop applications and services around the data center, ahead of its launching in May this year.
