Unlike the previous five Hello Kitty places, which were all Airbus A330s, the launch marks the first Boeing 777-300ER plane featuring the cartoon cat. It is also likely to serve travelers bound for European countries in the future, the airline added.
EVA Air began launching the Hello Kitty planes in October 2011 primarily on routes to Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong and the U.S. territory of Guam, on which they have proved popular.
To celebrate the first Hello Kitty-themed Boeing 777-300ER, EVA Air said it will organize a special group comprising passengers who are Hello Kitty fans to fly on the maiden flight.
The group's members will be eligible to take part in an on-board autograph session with Hello Kitty designer Yuko Yamaguchi and to attend a celebration party in Los Angeles as honored guests, the airline said.
In a similar project, China Airlines (CAL) unveiled in June a Boeing 747-400 jet fuselage painted by Jimmy Liao, one of Taiwan's most famous illustrators, in a bid to promote the country's creativity and environmental awareness to the world.
