HTC Windows phones win Red Dot awards

“We are honored to again receive the prestigious Red Dot design awards,” said Scott Croyle, vice president of design at HTC.

“Our design teams are constantly looking for design breakthroughs to create products that not only look great but also bring our customers the most unique experience,” he was quoted as saying in the company's statement.

The Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S are the latest additions to HTC's family of Windows-operated devices.

The two phones were among 1,200 award-winning products that will be showcased at the Red Dot design museum in Germany from July 2-28 and shown in the Red Dot design yearbook.

Launched in 1955, the Red Dot design award is one of the world's largest and most celebrated design competitions. This year, 1,865 participants from 54 countries submitted over 4,660 products and projects to compete for the coveted design awards.

Despite the award announcement, HTC shares had fallen 1.24 percent to NT$237.50 as of 10:24 a.m. Friday in Taipei, after its South Korean rival Samsung Electronics Co. launched a new smartphone model running on the Android operating system.
