GM appoints former VW executive to head troubled Opel's operations

BERLIN -- U.S. carmaker General Motors said Thursday it had appointed a former top Volkswagen executive, Karl-Thomas Neumann, to head up its struggling European offshoot, Opel.

The 51-year-old Neumann, who previously ran VW's operations in China, is due to take over the post at the loss-making Opel on March 1.
