Carrefour says third-quarter revenue up 2.1% on home market, L. America

PARIS -- French retail giant Carrefour said Thursday that its third-quarter sales gained 2.1 percent, helped by an increase in its ailing home market and Latin America.

Stronger Asian sales and a divestment of activities in Greece also boosted results at the world's second biggest retailer after the U.S. group Wal-Mart.

Pro forma sales, which exclude comparisons with Greece where Carrefour sold off its operations in June, climbed to 22.62 billion euros (US$29.1 billion), the group said in a statement.
