US Sprint weighs up rival bid for MetroPCS against European telecommunications giant

NEW YORK -- The third-largest U.S. mobile telephone company, Sprint, is considering making a bid for MetroPCS Communications, the company Deutsche Telekom plans to merge with, news reports said Thursday.

Sprint is weighing the feasibility of offering more for MetroPCS than Deutsche Telekom, Bloomberg reported, quoting people familiar with the situation. Sprint's board is meeting in the next two days to discuss the matter. Sprint could decide as early as next week whether to pursue a deal, Bloomberg said.
