General Electric to recommend fresh Boeing 747, 787 engine inspections

WASHINGTON -- General Electric said Tuesday it would recommend new inspections of its GEnx engines used on Boeing 747 and 787 aircraft following the failure of an engine in China in September.

A GE spokesperson said the company would issue a bulletin informing aircraft operators "in the next couple of days" and that it would affect around 120 aircraft.

Last week the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board said the Sept. 11 incident in Shanghai, in which one GEnx-2B turbofan engine on a Boeing 747 lost power during takeoff appeared unrelated to a previous incident in South Carolina in the U.S. on July 28.
