German carmaker Volkswagen AG sales in China increase 17.5 percent

BEIJING -- German carmaker Volkswagen AG sold 17.5 percent more cars in China in the first six months of the year than in the same period of 2011, it said Friday. The company sold 1.3 million cars, growing faster than the fastest-growing car market in the world, according to a statement released from its Beijing offices.

It sold 982,600 cars under its Volkswagen, or VW brand, up 15.2 percent year-on-year, 193,900 of its Audi brand, a 37.2-percent increase, and 120,700 Skodas, 7.6 percent more than a year earlier.
