Mercedes-Benz sales rise up 22 percent in Augu st year-on-year

Daimler AG says car sales at its core Mercedes-Benz brand rose 22 percent in August compared with a year earlier thanks to growth in China, Germany and the U.S.

Daimler said Friday that it delivered 81,000 Mercedes-Benz cars worldwide last month — up from 66,200 a year earlier.

Sales in China rose 113 percent to 13,400 and Mercedes-Benz delivered 15,800 cars in Germany — a 17.1 percent rise. U.S. deliveries rose 10 percent to 18,800.

Global deliveries for the first eight months of 2010 were up 16 percent compared with a year earlier at 735,400.
