Nissan posts quarterly profits on recovering demand in US, Asia

TOKYO -- Japan's third-largest vehicle manufacturer Nissan Motor Co on Thursday reported a surprise profit for the first quarter, thanks to a recovery in demand in North America and Asia. The group posted a net income of 106.65 billion yen (US$1.22 billion) for the April-June period, the first quarter of its financial year, up from a 16.53-billion-yen net loss a year earlier.
