Updated Saturday, July 24, 2010 9:18 pm TWN, The China Post news staff TUV certifies textiles made in Taiwan from recycled materialAmong the products were the green polo shirts worn by members of the Tzu Chi Foundation. The textiles were made by Super Textile Corp. TUV said it has inspected each step in the manufacturing process, determining where the materials came from and whether they were really recycled. According to TUV, Taiwan textile manufacturers have made significant strides in turning recycled materials into high-quality, highly functional garments for different uses. For example, during the World Cup games last month, many players wore Taiwan-made uniforms made from recycled PET bottles. The clothes were emblazoned with superior designs and stressed health and comfort, winning the trust and business of various teams. At the same time, Tzu Chi has donated blankets made with recycled PET bottles to nations and areas hit by natural disasters. The blankets provided warmth and comfort for victims. Taiwan has developed a robust recycling industry in recent years. According to government statistics, about 0.18 million tons of containers made from recycled plastic materials were created in Taiwan in 1998, equivalent to six Taipei 101 buildings. “Recycled products that are certified will be more appealing to foreign buyers and will attract more sales. We suggest that makers of textiles and electronics obtain certification before entering the recycled materials application market in order to enhance the value of their products,” TUV said.
