Swiss chocolate-maker Lindt posts profit plunge in economic crisis

GENEVA -- Swiss chocolate-maker Lindt and Spruengli on Thursday said its full-year profits plunged by over a third as the economic crisis quashed demand for premium chocolates. Currency fluctuations and record prices for cocoa also dented 2009 earnings, which fell 35.4 percent to 193.1 million francs (US$182 million), from 261.5 million francs posted for 2008, the chocolatier added.
