Chinatrust, Farglory fined for false ads

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Farglory Realty and Chinatrust Commercial Bank were each fined NT$500,000 for posting misleading advertisements yesterday.

According to Fair Trade Commission (FTC), Farglory's slogan “Sustaining for 40 years, Only Farglory” is untrue. Farglory does not have any operation that has been in business for 40 years, and two other construction companies, Cathay Real Estate and Pacific Construction, have been established for more than 40 years.

As for Chinatrust, it advertised that their platinum card users can upgrade High Speed Rail tickets to business class with 600 points every day, but there are actually very limited quotas for each train, ranging from two to 20 seats, depending on the time of the train. FTC said Chinatrust's advertising was released before checking with High Speed Rail, did not have the terms clearly stated in the ad, and was irresponsible.
