Air India pilots threaten new strike over payment

MUMBAI -- State-run flagship carrier Air India on Tuesday faced the threat of more strike action by pilots in support of payment demands.

Junior pilots would strike from November 24 “if issues including that of pending arrears are not addressed by Air India management by November 10”, the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) said.

Air India lost US$1 billion in the financial year to March 2009 and senior pilots staged a five-day strike in September to protest benefit cuts, prompting widespread flight cancellations by the airline. The carrier was forced to delay implementation of a plan to cut incentives and other payments after the senior pilots staged the walkout.
