TTC to seek compensation from system destroyer

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan Mobile Corp. (TTC) has decided to demand a compensation of NT$25 million from an ex-employee of the Nokia-Siemens Networks (NSN) for making 3G Telecom equipment malfunction for five hours during the 2008 year-end countdown party.

The five-hour failure of the 3G exchangers supplied by the NSN to TTC made hundreds of thousands of people gathering at the countdown party unable to send new-year greetings via handsets to their family members, relatives, and friends in areas north of Hsinchu County.

TTC originally supposed the system failure to be caused by the rapid expansion of its workload, but following one year of investigation, the firm found the system malfunction was conducted by a NSN maintenance specialist dispatched to station at the TTC to repair the NSN 3G telecom system.

As the system failure made TTC suffer a loss of around NT$25 million in voice and message service income, the company has decided to file a lawsuit against ex-NSN employee, identified as Chen Huai-hsien, and demand a compensation of NT$25 million.
