Tom Dragon shuts down after bounced checks

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Tom Dragon, which runs several children’s indoor entertainment facilities in Taiwan, shut down yesterday after the company failed to honor checks worth millions, the local United Evening News reported.

The company’s chairman, Hsu Lung-wen, is currently in China and may come back over the next few days to explain the situation, the paper reported.

The company’s sales this year were reduced by 70 percent from 2007, due to the current economic downturn, the paper reported, citing employees.

Employees haven’t got paid for at least a month, the report said.

Tom Dragon has nine facilities in Taiwan, including one inside RT-Mart hypermarket’s Neihu Two branch.

RT-Mart is “concerned” about Tom Dragon’s closure, as the hypermarket has yet to terminate its leasing contract with Tom Dragon, the paper reported.

Consumers with prepaid tickets to Tom Dragon may ask the firm for a refund, the Consumers’ Foundation said yesterday.
