Vietnam industrial output, exports up 28 % in Jan.

HANOI -- Revised statistics for January showed Vietnam's economy continuing its strong recovery, government officials said Monday. Industrial production and exports were each up 28 percent over January 2009, and growth was strong in every sector, General Statistics Office official Pham Tien Nam said. Industrial production was down 4.5 percent from December, and exports were down 10 percent. That reflected a normal seasonal drop due to the New Year's holiday, Nam said. But overall production since January 2008 was growing even faster than its average of 15-17 percent over the past eight years, said Vo Tri Thanh, deputy director of the Central Institute for Economic Management.
