More than 7 million people in Singapore now use mobile phones

SINGAPORE -- The number of mobile phones in use has crossed the seven million mark in Singapore. According to the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore's website, there were 7.02 million mobile phone subscribers as of June, up 0.8 percent from the 6.96 million the month before. Statistics for July are not yet available.

Penetration rates have also risen to 140.7 percent, up 1.1 percentage points from 139.6 percent. In other words, there is now an average of 1.4 handsets per person here.
