The office will serve as a consultant to companies in Toyama that are interested in doing business with Taiwanese partners, Toyama Prefecture Governor Takakazu Ishii said at the office's opening ceremony.
“The bilateral exchanges and the number of inquiries in Japan have increased, so we decided to set up this office,” he said.
The Toyama government has organized roughly 200 trade promotion meetings for Japanese firms since April, with 30 percent of the meetings aimed at business opportunities in China and Taiwan, Ishii said.
Due to the rising demand from business travelers, China Airlines, Taiwan's largest carrier, has also decided to expand its direct flights between Toyama and Taipei from two to four per week, Ishii said.
