Yen to fall as FM Fujii won't tolerate strong currency: UBS

TOKYO -- The yen may fall against the dollar as Finance Minister Hirohisa Fujii won't “tolerate” a stronger currency, according to UBS AG.

“Having already changed his view on the yen against the dollar since becoming finance minister, we think Fujii and his adviser Gyohten will not tolerate much further upside in the yen,” Gareth Berry, a UBS analyst in Singapore, wrote Monday in a note to clients. “Coupled with concerns about the sustainability of Japan fiscal position we prefer to be buyers rather than sellers of dollar-yen at current levels.”
