Lower food prices result in easing of Indonesia inflation to 4.31 percent

JAKARTA -- Inflation in Indonesia eased to 4.31 percent in September as food prices fell after Eid-al Fitr celebrations, the Central Statistics Agency said on Monday.

The consumer price index came in lower than the 4.58 percent in August, the agency's chief Suryamin told reporters in a press conference.

"We recorded food price deflation of 0.92 percent ... our food supply is quite a lot," he said, adding that it was the lowest September inflation figure since 2007.

Month-on-month inflation was recorded at 0.01 percent, from 0.95 percent in August.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile food prices, was 4.12 percent in September, compared to 4.16 percent in August.
