Taiwan's first souvenir show set for late April, to boost tourism tradeThe four-day event will feature various gifts and foodstuffs that are locally manufactured or produced, the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) said in a statement. The council told CNA that it hoped to use the show as an initiative platform for local souvenir makers to extend their domestic markets to include countries and regions around the world, especially ones where the main language is Mandarin. The show, in collaboration with local governments, has attracted over 150 local exhibitors, occupying nearly 300 booths. In addition to displays featuring a wide array of food products and stationery items, one-on-one procurement meetings will also be held on-site, according to TAITRA. The show will help the country's thriving tourism industry to further drive the economy with some added value, the organizers said, explaining that souvenirs are things that tourists like to take home with their lovely memories. Lonely Planet ranked Taiwan ninth in its list of the top 10 countries to visit in 2012. Besides its “jaw-dropping landscape,” Taiwan is “a fusion and slow-food showcase,” the travel guidebook publisher's website said. The unprecedented show will run from April 19 to April 22 at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1, TAITRA said. | |||||||||||||
