The area was set up as electric vehicles have become a mainstream idea in the future of the automobile industry, he said at an opening ceremony. "It showcases the technical strength of Taiwan's R&D and manufacturing ability in lithium-iron batteries, motor modules and other key components for electric vehicles, " he added. The global automobile electronics market is expected to be worth US$176 billion by 2012, said Arthur Chiao, chairman of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA). The market will continue to grow thanks to robust growth in the automobile market in Asia and stable demand from markets in Europe and the United States, he told the show's opening ceremony. Taiwan's competitive edge in information and communications technology (ICT) can help establish the country as a major supplier for the world's automobile electronics industry, he added. The number of exhibitors at the two shows totaled 1,011 this year, occupying 2,711 booths and representing a 6-percent rise from last year. "By contrast, exhibitions in other countries have posted declines due to the global financial crisis, " said Huang Chih-peng, head of the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Both shows will run until April 15 at the Taipei World Trade Center's Nangang Exhibition Hall, open only to trade visitors except for the final two days, when they will be open to the general public. More than 55,000 people from home and 5,500 people from abroad are expected to visit the shows, according to the organizers. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
