Taiwan sets sights on India's tourism marketSince 2004, the number of Indian tourists traveling overseas annually has grown by 15 percent to exceed 10 million in 2009, according to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in New Delhi. However, only around 23,000 Indian tourists visited Taiwan in 2009, accounting for 0.2 percent of the total number who traveled abroad, officials of the center said. These figures indicate that the India tourism market is a big one that Taiwan can explore, the officials added. A group of tour agency representatives from Taiwan, headed by a Taiwan Visitors Association advisor Ju Hung-mei, are currently attending two major travel fairs in New Deli, India. According to Ju, the delegation hopes to promote high-quality Taiwan tour packages to Indian consumers during the two events — the Travel and Tourism Fair and the Outbound Travel Mart. | |||||||||||||
