With the approval of the Executive Yuan, Suao will join Taoyuan Airport, Keelung Port, Taipei Port, Taichung Port and Kaohsiung Port as free trade ports which enjoy preferential tax discounts and 40 percent quota for hiring foreign labor. Suao, which reinvented itself as a green port, will be the base of an electric automobile manufacturer and has been designated a “logistic zone.” The existing free trade ports boosted annual export volume of NT$112.8 billion last year. The free trade port annexation is expected to bring Suao a maximum of an extra NT$50 million per year in rent income alone.
