Taiwan to send annual hi-tech talent recruitment mission to U.S.

New York -- A talent recruitment mission from Taiwan is scheduled to visit the United States Nov. 12-23 with the aim of offering more than 1,500 job openings to overseas hi-tech professionals, a Taiwan official posted in New York said Wednesday.

The mission, to be led by Taiwan's Minister without Portfolio Chang Jin-fu, will visit Silicon Valley, Dallas, Chicago and Boston to conduct one-on-one interviews with local professionals, said Julian Lee, head of the Taiwan Trade Center in New York.

According to Lee, with the economic situation in the United States remaining difficult, many professionals have been showing an interest in overseas opportunities.

The mission is being organized jointly by the National Science Council, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Education.

Thirty-two employers in the industrial and research sectors are providing at least 1,510 jobs under the initiative. The positions up for grabs include managerial supervisors, R&D supervisors, engineers and R&D personnel in the semiconductor, photonics, information and communications, metal material, bio-technology, pharmaceutical and green energy industries.

The Taiwan government has organized similar tours every year since 2003 in a bid to attract overseas hi-tech talent. So far, a total of 3,016 hi-tech professionals have been hired by this means.

Persons interested in the job fairs are advised to register online at http: //hirecruit.nat.gov.tw/english/index.asp or contact the offices of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council in the United States.
