Broadband trade show to start Oct. 26

Broadband Taiwan, a trade show that showcases achievements that Taiwan has made in high-speed Internet, will kick off its three-day run on Oct. 26, displaying a wide range of technologies.

According to Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), one of the organizers, some of the biggest names in the IT industry will be participating. These include Intel, Alcatel-Lucent, Starent, Samsung, Motorola, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Nokia Siemens Networks, Alvarion, Tebnovus, MediaTek, ZyXEL, Gemtek, Chunghwa Telecom, Far Eastone Telecom, Tatung Infocomm, and First International Telecom. All of them will show off their latest products and services.

Moreover, executives of leading carriers will also take part in the show, TAITRA says. These include Clearwire of the United States, UQ of Japan, Worldmax of the Netherlands, Portugal Telecom, Yota of Russia, P1 of Malaysia, Ultra Telecom of Mexico, Telefonica and Embratel of Brazil, BSNL of India, Banglalion of Bangladesh, and Movilmax (Omnivision) of Venezuela.

Meanwhile, two procurement seminars will be held by Telefonica and Ultra Telecom, respectively on Oct. 26 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and Oct. 27 from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at the stage area on the show floor. The events will bring huge opportunities for local network equipment makers, TAITRA says.

At the same time, five international conferences will also take place, including WiMAX Forum Member Conference Taipei, WiMAX Summit Taiwan 2009, Broadband Forum Taiwan 2009, IPTV Develop Forum 2009 -- IPTV on Multi-Platforms, and Cross Strait Broadband Industry Exchange Conference 2009.

“These activities are expected to attract many professional communication companies to attend,” TAITRA says.

WiMAX is one of the most talked about wireless broadband technologies in the networking circle. It provides coverage of kilometers in area, compared to smaller range of coverage for Wi-Fi, which is mostly deployed in coffee shops and restaurants.
