Voucher-robbers busted by police

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Bag-snatchers got held up about the shopping vouchers worth billions distributed yesterday nationwide, police authorities said, adding that three crooks have already been put behind bars.

A 20-year-old bag-snatcher attempted to grab a handbag from a 40-year-old housewife in Nantou City in the afternoon, police said. When she refused to let her bag go and started shouting, the young man gave up and escaped on his motorcycle.

After the woman reportedly made a formal complaint to a nearby police station — she had gotten the motorcycle's licence number — police realized that the same person snatched another handbag containing NT$200 with three accomplices in the morning in Taichung.

The three accomplices were arrested ten minutes later while holding up a gas station in the same neighborhood.
