Also, a 30-year-old housewife from Tucheng Township and another 45-year-old woman from Chunghe City reportedly fainted for the same reason but recovered more quickly. Some causes of the unexplained fainting were harmless, including standing for too long on an empty stomach and emotional upset, firefighters said. Fainting, also called syncope, is a sudden loss of consciousness. It occurs when the blood pressure drops and not enough oxygen reaches the brain, medical experts point out.
