Updated Saturday, December 27, 2008 10:45 am TWN, The China Post news staff Prime View and Netronix soaring with e-book salesAt least two Taiwan companies are rising along with the surge in orders for e-books as Christmas gifts in the U.S. market spurred by Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle electronic-book readers. Share prices of both Prime View International Co. and Netronix, Inc. jumped to their daily limits on the Taiwan stock market yesterday. The two companies formed a strategic alliance early this year to jointly tap the e-book market. Shipments have almost doubled to around 2,500 sets of e-books each month to 4,500 sets as now. Executives said their customers presently lie mostly in European nations. They are optimistic about continuing rises and expansion to other markets, including catering to domestic readers in Taiwan. The major advantages of e-books include environmental friendliness, being much lighter to carry around, and easier to resell to others on the public auction Web sites, said the executives. The companies aim to roll out new version of e-books with functions of wireless access and touch screen use by readers in the first quarter of 2009. They will also step up cooperation with book publishers, especially those holding best-selling titles, to produce the electonic editions. Contents remain a crucial factor that will dictate the hot sales or flops of the e-books, the executives said. Prime View International Co. is an affiliate founded in 1992 at Hsinchu Science Industrial Park by the Yuen Foong Yu Group, which has extensive business operations covering paper production, financial services, and high-tech products. Prime View began to construct Taiwan's first TFT-LCD production facility on October 1994. Netronix, Inc. is a designer and manufacturer of network products and multimedia peripherals. It provides network and multimedia applications for customer's various demands, including Ethernet applications from Ethernet switch, Gigabit switch, Web-smart switch to SNMP managed switch that fits the needs from Home and SOHO network, small and medium business to government and enterprises.
