Price of Commercial Times, Economic Daily to go up

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan’s two best-selling financial newspapers will raise their bookstand prices by 33 percent next year, blaming rising commodity prices for driving up costs. The Commercial Times will sell for NT$20 starting Jan. 1, up from NT$15, according to a notice yesterday. The Economic Daily News announced a similar price increase on Nov. 29. Paper prices have surged 66 percent to almost US$900 a ton from about US$500 a ton last year, according to the Economic Daily News.

Both Chinese-language newspapers are based in Taipei.
